Pillars of the Dream: Work

I found this terrific post on the very good blog Farming The Dream and immediately decided to share it with you.
Atheists believe that work made people from apes.
What can happen if there is not enough work?

Farming The Dream

I have found that Super Bowel commercials are really the only ones worth watching. At the price they pay per minute, I’d hope so.

Though this commercial is probably not very popular in other countries, it does have a good message that comes clear in one sentence: “It’s pretty simple, you work hard, create your own luck, and you got to believe that anything is possible.” That sentence sums up the idea of work in The American Dream.

Work uses Opportunities within Freedom to build our lives. By its strength, we can forge different destinies for us and our families. The immigrant can become a steel magnate, like Andrew Carnegie; a boy splitting rails for the railway can become president, like Abraham Lincoln.

About wisdom

The saddest aspect of life right now is that science gathers knowledge faster than society gathers wisdom.

~Isaac Asimov

It is easier to find a score of men wise enough to discover the truth than to find one intrepid enough, in the face of opposition, to stand up for it.

~A.A. Hodge

Wisdom consists of the anticipation of consequences.

Wisdom comes by disillusionment.

Funny quotes to remember.

I am sleepy today. Before the next burst of activity I decided to reblog this old post. It’s good to remember quotes below.

PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS

When you are courting a nice girl an hour seems like a second. When you sit on a red-hot cinder a second seems like an hour. That’s relativity.

Albert Einstein

Do not take life too seriously. You will never get out of it alive.

Elbert Hubbard

Behind every great man is a woman rolling her eyes.

Jim Carrey

Get your facts first, then you can distort them as you please.

Thomas Sowell and his quotes.

Several days ago I reblogged wise quotes of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Today I want to introduce to new followers and guests quotes of Thomas Sowell. You’ll find link to an article about him in the post.

PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS

I just returned home from a nice party and found an email with Thomas Sowell’s quotes. I read all quotes and then went to Google to find out who was Thomas Sowell.

Here is what I found:   THOMAS SOWELL

Then I went back to the email and copied several quotes.

You can see them below and make your own conclusions.

“Much of the social history of the Western world, over the past three decades, has been a history of replacing what worked with what sounded good.”

“It is hard to imagine a more stupid or more dangerous way of making decisions than by putting those decisions in the hands of people who pay no price for being wrong.”

“One of the consequences of such notions as ‘entitlements’ is that people who have contributed nothing to society feel that society owes them something, apparently just for…

Several quotes of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

This post is relevant today especially for many black leaders in our country who incite hatred and divisiveness instead of following wisdom of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS

Our scientific power has outrun our spiritual power. We have guided missiles and misguided men.

We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

When we let freedom ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God’s children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual, ‘Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!’

Means we use must be as pure as the ends we seek.

Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.

Quotes to think about

People spend too much time finding other people to blame, too much energy finding excuses for not being what they are capable of being, and not enough energy putting themselves on the line, growing out of the past, and getting on with their lives.

J. Michael Straczynski

A good head and a good heart are always a formidable combination.

Nelson Mandela

If you’re trying to achieve, there will be roadblocks. I’ve had them; everybody has had them. But obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.

Michael Jordan

I believe that we are solely responsible for our choices, and we have to accept the consequences of every deed, word, and thought throughout our lifetime.

Elisabeth Kubler-Ross

The way you see people is the way you treat them, and the way you treat them is what they become.

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Quotes of Joseph Addison

Three grand essentials to happiness in this life are something to do, something to love, and something to hope for.

Reading is a basic tool in the living of a good life.

What sculpture is to a block of marble, education is to a human soul.

What sunshine is to flowers, smiles are to humanity. These are but trifles, to be sure; but scattered along life’s pathway, the good they do is inconceivable.

Friendship improves happiness, and abates misery, by doubling our joys, and dividing our grief.

There is nothing that makes its way more directly into the soul than beauty.

Everything that is new or uncommon raises a pleasure in the imagination, because it fills the soul with an agreeable surprise, gratifies its curiosity, and gives it an idea of which it was not before possessed.

“You cannot push anyone up a ladder unless he is willing to climb a little.”
*
“If you want to be happy, set a goal that commands your thoughts, liberates your energy, and inspires your hopes.”
*
“A man who acquires the ability to take full possession of his own mind may take possession of anything else to which he is justly entitled.”

“Perhaps the most tragic thing about mankind is that we are all dreaming about some magical garden over the horizon, instead of enjoying the roses that are right outside today.”

Several quotes about intelligence.

I think it is a proper time to remind my followers and guests what they possibly forgot. Let’s grow in right directions!

PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS

Character is higher than intellect. A great soul will be strong to live as well as think.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

An intelligent person is never afraid or ashamed to find errors in his understanding of things.

Bryant H. McGill

The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits.

Albert Einstein

Action is the real measure of intelligence.

Napoleon Hill

There are no great limits to growth because there are no limits of human intelligence, imagination, and wonder.

Ronald Reagan

An intellectual is a man who takes more words than necessary to tell more than he knows.

A value of one word.

There are many wonderful writers in the WordPress’ family.

Surely, I am not one of them.

I am a reader.

But for 80 years I learned that every word you say or write is very valuable.

I learned that it is possible to describe a real story using only 2-6 words.

To describe a fantasy I usually need more words.

Here are some examples:

He was.

He was hurt.

He was badly hurt.

He was hurt by her.

He was hurt by her rejection!

As you see there are five real stories above.

And below is an example of fantasy:

He was hurt by her rejection of his money!

I hope that from now on you will choose every word you say or write.

It is always good to hope!

“War and Peace” quotes.

My first culture was Russian.

I think I read everything written by L. Tolstoy. I also read a lot about him and how some of his ideas were wrong and harmful.

However, I believe that it is very good for everyone to read his quotes from “War and Peace”, to think about meaning of each of them and relevance of these quotes today.

Clever mathematics

I got an email from my friend with a story that l liked.

Here is the story:

“A farmer died leaving his 17 horses to his three sons.

When his sons opened up the Will it read:

My eldest son should get 1/2 (half) of total horses;

My middle son should get 1/3rd (one-third) of total horses;

My youngest son should get 1/9th (one-ninth) of total horses.

As it’s impossible to divide 17 into half or 17 by 3 or 17 by 9, the three sons started to fight with each other.

So, they decided to go to a friend who they considered quite smart, to see if he could work it out for them.

The farmer friend read the Will patiently, after giving due thought, he brought one of his own horses over and added it to the 17.

That increased the total to 18 horses.

Now, he divided the horses according to their father’s Will.

Half of 18 = 9. So he gave the eldest son 9 horses.

1/3rd of 18 = 6. So he gave the middle son 6 horses.

1/9th of 18 = 2. So he gave the youngest son 2 horses.

Now add up how many horses they have:

Eldest son……..9

Middle son…….6

Youngest son…2

TOTAL ….…….17

This leaves one horse over, so the farmer friend takes his horse back to his farm.

Problem Solved!

Moral:

The attitude of negotiation and problem solving is to find the 18th horse i.e. the common ground.

Once a person is able to find the 18th horse the issue resolved.

It is difficult at times.

However, to reach a solution, the first step is to believe that there is a solution.

If we think that there is no solution, we won’t be able to reach any!

                                              That’s clever mathematics!”

I know, I know!

After I published yesterday the short post “Do you believe in evolution? Our relative?” one of my followers (M-R) asked me to clarify my beliefs. I do it by reblogging this post.

Several quotes about priorities.

I believe there are three keys to success. For me it is keeping my priorities in order: It’s my faith and my family, and then the business.

Kathy Ireland

I’m starting to judge success by the time I have for myself, the time I spend with family and friends. My priorities aren’t amending; they’re shifting.

Brendan Fraser

Decide what you want, decide what you are willing to exchange for it. Establish your priorities and go to work.

H. L. Hunt

The answer to many of the domestic problems we face is not higher taxes and more spending. It is less waste, more results and greater freedom for the individual American to earn a rightful place in his own community – and for States and localities to address their own needs in their own ways, in the light of their own priorities.
