I am not Irish

Today is Saint Patrick’s Day. There will be parades and festivals all over our country. We’ll celebrate it on our broadwalk in Hollywood (Florida) too.

One of the first posts on this blog was “I am not Irish”. I reblogged it long time ago. Today I copied it end edited here. Hope that you’ll like it.

I AM NOT IRISH

Posted on October 4, 2013

I lived in four countries but Ireland is not one of them.

I visited more than 50 countries but I’ve never been in Ireland.

However, I watch “The Quiet Man” every year and enjoy it very much.

I love the country and its people.

For many years after retirement I enjoyed summer months in Pocono Manor, a small beautiful town in the Pocono mountains.

There was often an Irish Festival there before the Labor Day.

It started early in the day in tents on the golf course.

There was always a lot of laughter, a lot of beer, lovely dances. many wonderful things to buy and to taste..

Once I bought a small book “Irish Blessings”. I read it immediately after buying it and then many times again and again.

I want to share just three of the blessings with you.

“May you have all the happiness

And luck that life can hold –

And at the end of all your rainbows

May you find a pot of gold”.

” May you have…

a song in your heart

a smile on your lips

and nothing but joy

at your fingertips”.

******************************************************

” I wish you lots of good luck

No matter what the day

I wish you lots of sunshine

And not a bit of gray…

I wish you lots of laughter

And never one wee sigh,

And I hope no gift of fortune

May ever pass you by.”

Today I got a “gift of fortune” on the blog Bookish Nature,

It is an entry about Seamus Heaney and his poetry.

I have to confess that I did not know anything about

him before today and have never read his poetry,

Reading the article made my day!.

You can enjoy it HERE.
