On 1/20/2017 I found on LEARN FUN FACTS and enjoyed the post
The post with many quotes about circles inspired me to create a simple painting below.
I hope that you’ll like it.
We think of our lives as straight or not so straight roads but I believe that we often follow circles and our happiness and all emotions depend on their colors.
Below are one of my favorite quotes and a photo I was lucky to shoot in Hollywood (Florida). I hope that you’ll like them.
What sweetness is left in life, if you take away friendship? Robbing life of friendship is like robbing the world of the sun. A true friend is more to be esteemed than kinsfolk.
Marcus Tullius Cicero
I would appreciate very much if in comments to this post you shared whatever you like or proud of (giving links to your blogs).
Thank you.
Happiness lies in the joy of achievement and the thrill of creative effort.
Democracy cannot succeed unless those who express their choice are prepared to choose wisely. The real safeguard of democracy, therefore, is education.
True individual freedom cannot exist without economic security and independence. People who are hungry and out of a job are the stuff of which dictatorships are made.
When you see a rattlesnake poised to strike, you do not wait until he has struck to crush him.
It isn’t sufficient just to want – you’ve got to ask yourself what you are going to do to get the things you want.
To reach a port, we must sail – sail, not tie at anchor – sail, not drift.
Health is the greatest possession. Contentment is the greatest treasure. Confidence is the greatest friend.
Lao Tzu
There is no end of craving. Hence contentment alone is the best way to happiness. Therefore, acquire contentment.
Swami Sivananda
Eventually, we reach the point where we start to realize that we are not going to find peace, contentment, happiness, strength, fearlessness – all of the things that in our heart of hearts we wish we had – outside of us..

Human beings are the only animals of which I am thoroughly and cravenly afraid..
The most important thing is to enjoy your life – to be happy – it’s all that matters.
Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.
Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don’t resist them – that only creates sorrow. Let reality be reality. Let things flow naturally forward in whatever way they like.
Time will pass and seasons will come and go.
There are seasons in life. Don’t ever let anyone try to deny you the joy of one season because they believe you should stay in another season… Listen to yourself. Trust your instincts. Keep your perspective.
Another season passed and we are going back to New York, to our family and friends there.
I will be 81 soon. It’s a very good number!
I read long time ago that in Mongolia “9” is a happy number. 81 = 9 X 9.
Is it nine times happiness?
We are going from stunning sunrises in Florida to terrific sunrises in Queens.
Everything looks wonderful and full of joy.
I will not post anything for a week.
Please enjoy 750 old posts.
Best to you!
There are two kinds of fools: those who can’t change their opinions and those who won’t.
Josh Billings
Wait! Wait!
Don’t tell me that you are not married!
Don’t tell me that you love your spouse so much that you’ll never divorce her or him!
I am not talking about dissolving marriage.
I am talking about your readiness to listen, to think, be flexible, to part with your opinions if it makes sense.
Several weeks ago a couple of friends visited us in Pocono Manor. We had a very nice time together and we discussed different topics. They mentioned that their grandson (who is a college graduate) had opinions about everything and became angry and rude if somebody had expressed a different opinion.
It did not surprise us. We hear very often that students and professors are against discussions in universities, that they simply vote against allowing people with different opinions to speak on campuses.
I remember with great love wonderful teachers who gave us…

In character, in manner, in style, in all things, the supreme excellence is simplicity.
Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.
I have just three things to teach: simplicity, patience, compassion. These three are your greatest treasures.
The art of art, the glory of expression and the sunshine of the light of letters, is simplicity.

You don’t develop courage by being happy in your relationships everyday. You develop it by surviving difficult times and challenging adversity.
Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power.
All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players: they have their exits and their entrances; and one man in his time plays many parts, his acts being seven ages.
We live in a wonderful world that is full of beauty, charm and adventure. There is no end to the adventures that we can have if only we seek them with our eyes open.
Dear friends, I have a big problem!
Often I think that we are from different worlds.
It is not because I lived 40 years in the USSR or I am a bit older than many of you.
I know that all of you love reading. I am sure that you met at some time quotes below:
Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.
The reading of all good books is like a conversation with the finest minds of past centuries.
He that loves reading has everything within his reach.
Who I am, what I am, is the culmination of a lifetime of reading, a lifetime of stories. And there are still so many more books to read. I’m a work in progress.
So what is the problem?
I think it is in our ways of reading.
Let me explain.
When I was 8 years old I went in the library in Tashkent and a librarian told me: “I see that you love to read. Let’s do it in a right way! First read all books of fairy tales, then I’ll give you books about myths, then we’ll go through classics, then you can read books of philosophers, then some science fiction. After it you are on your own.”
This is exactly what we did. Nine years later I graduated from the high school and at that time I read many, many books written in Russian or translated from different languages into Russian. Since 1975 I also read thousands of books written in English or translated into English.
Today I don’t know how much you read or what you read. But it is very important to know!
Why? Because you can understand and accept my thoughts or posts only if you are ready for it.
Blogs are a new way of conversation. Writing and reading blogs is exercise of minds. And all of us are “work in progress”.
If we believe that we know everything, if our opinions are fixed and we are unable or not willing to follow and consider thoughts of others we stopped our growth. It means that we are mentally dying.
Several followers of this blog asked me who is my favorite author. I could not answer this question because I have favorite authors from many countries.
Today I want to mention one of them. He was born In Germany. His name is Erich Maria Remarque.
Please let me know if you read his books. If yes what his books you liked most.
Thank you!
*NONE OF THEM WAS HAPPY!
“Do not ask your childrento strive for extraordinary lives.
Such striving may seem admirable,
but it is the way of foolishness.
Help them instead to find the wonder
and the marvel of an ordinary life.
Show them the joy of tasting
tomatoes, apples and pears.
Show them how to cry
when pets and people die.
Show them the infinite pleasure
in the touch of a hand.
And make the ordinary come alive for them.
The extraordinary will take care of itself.”
― William Martin
“And while it takes courage to achieve greatness, it takes more courage to find fulfillment in being ordinary. For the joys that last have little relationship to achievement, to standing one step higher on the victory platform. What is the adventure in being ordinary? It is daring to love just for the pleasure of giving it away. It is venturing to give new life and to nurture it to maturity. It is working hard for the pure joy of being tired at the end of the day. It is caring and sharing and giving and loving…”
― Marilyn Thomsen**
Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.
My mother said I must always be intolerant of ignorance but understanding of illiteracy. That some people, unable to go to school, were more educated and more intelligent than college professors.
Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.
Weakness is what brings ignorance, cheapness, racism, homophobia, desperation, cruelty, brutality, all these things that will keep a society chained to the ground, one foot nailed to the floor.
If we’re looking for the source of our troubles, we shouldn’t test people for drugs, we should test them for stupidity, ignorance, greed and love of power.

For man, as for flower and beast and bird, the supreme triumph is to be most vividly, most perfectly alive.
Victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory however long and hard the road may be; for without victory, there is no survival.
Accept the challenges so that you can feel the exhilaration of victory.
Invincibility lies in the defence; the possibility of victory in the attack.
Wars may be fought with weapons, but they are won by men. It is the spirit of men who follow and of the man who leads that gains the victory.
You will find peace not by trying to escape your problems, but by confronting them courageously. You will find peace not in denial, but in victory.
There is no substitute for victory.
The idea that a war can be won by standing on the defensive and waiting for the enemy to attack is a dangerous fallacy, which owes its inception to the desire to evade the price of victory.
Where there is unity there is always victory.
I am working on a second post about Gala and Salvador Dali. I am reading what I found about them and trying to understand what really motivated both.
I’ll tell you soon about their relationship from my point of view (based on available information).
Some people asked me why it is necessary to know about lives of famous people.
My answer is simple: we must learn about people as much as possible because it can decide our fates. Today one person can be responsible for what happens with millions or billions people.
Just remember the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962. At that time we were very close to the nuclear war.
Not long ago we learned that relationships between men and women can have very serious effect on the fate of our country (remember the presidential candidate Edwards and the head of CIA general Petraeus).
When I read today about people who want to become President of my country I ask myself: “Why do they think that they are capable? What motivates them? How can we decide who is the best person for the job?”

I am not strange. I am just not normal.
A true artist is not one who is inspired, but one who inspires others.
One day it will have to be officially admitted that what we have christened reality is an even greater illusion than the world of dreams.
People love mystery, and that is why they love my paintings.
It is not necessary for the public to know whether I am joking or whether I am serious, just as it is not necessary for me to know it myself.
Let my enemies devour each other.
