Pocono Manor and my photos

In 1977 my wife and I visited Pocono Manor first time. We liked it so much that then we stayed there (in the Carriage House) when we could.
After my retirement we went there every summer and enjoyed peace and beauty of this small town.
In the old post below I gave you information about past and future of Pocono Manor.

As far as I know Kalahari Resorts already bought the historic Inn at Pocono Manor and will finish soon construction of the largest in the world indoor water park and other facilities.
Will the place be better or worse?
We’ll know the answer this summer.

In the meantime I want to show you my photos taken last summer.
I placed them in a page “POCONO MANOR GALLERY”. Please click on the first photo and you’ll be able to see all pictures in proper sizes and colors.

PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS

What is Pocono Manor?

Wikipedia says: “Pocono Manor is an unincorporated community in Monroe CountyPennsylvaniaUnited States, located at approximately latitude 41.1 and longitude -75.359, at an elevation of 1,706 feet, on Pennsylvania State Highway 314 east of Pocono Summit and west of Swiftwater.[1] It is the location of a resort and golf course called The Inn at Pocono Manor, with a Donald Ross-designed golf course,[2] site of the Pocono Northeast Classic; and of the Pocono Manor Historic District.”

We are now in Pocono Manor and it is clear that the definition above is not very good.

First of all, there is the Carriage House in Pocono Manor. It is an independent time-sharing property.

Secondly, there are many private houses (the Cottage Colony).

Thirdly, until last year there were two 18-holes golf courses. Currently one course is intact…

Three paintings (2/23/2015)

After publishing today WOMAN OF A STRONG SEX DRIVE I needed relaxation and went to play chess on the deck. However, my partner was not there.

So I worked out for some time and looked on happy people who were swimming in the Atlantic or lying in the sun on the beach.

Then I returned to my laptop and made several paintings using an editing program that often changes without any known reason. Certainly, I have little knowledge how it works today.

The paintings received by experimenting. I used the first one to produce two others.

Please let me know if you like any of them.

Life is full of surprises or robbers, where are you?! (Part 2)

Here is part 2 of “Life is full of surprises or robbers, where are you?!
I want to clarify here that at time of our emigration people in the USSR were forced to refuse from citizenship and to pay 900 rubles for every member of a family (an average monthly salary of an engineer was 120 rubles). It gives a hint where robbers were at that time.

PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS

I slowly drank cold orange juice. My wife and children (15 and 9) were looking at me and at the parcels.

My wife said: “I am sure you are very hungry. Dinner is ready.”

“No, I can’t eat now. Please place some vodka on my hands, face and neck. I burnt them during the day. Let me relax. I’ll eat later.”

She gently treated me and said: “I wonder what is in these heavy wooden boxes?”

“I thought about it many hours. Oh, I also got 4 letters from our mothers. Here they are. Please read them.”

My wife read all letters aloud. They were very sad. Our mothers were sure that they will never see us again and they were very worried how we would be able to cope with all difficulties of life before we reach America and after it. They knew that Soviet authorities allowed us to…

Inspired by Henri Matisse

Last Sunday my wife and I visited the Museum of Modern Art.

There was a huge exhibition of work of Henri Matisse there.

Two days passed and I feel inspired by everything we saw there and by his attitude to art.

“What I dream of is an art of balance, purity, and serenity devoid of troubling or depressing subject matter… a soothing, calming influence on the mind, something like a good armchair which provides relaxation from physical fatigue. ”
-Henri Matisse

When we left the museum I immediately told my wife that I am going to change my approach to photography and painting.

But it is necessary first to introduce to new followers my digital paintings that they did not see before..

Today I added links to some posts in the page “My paintings and tests”. To access them you need to click on words “My paintings and tests” on the black field below the header’s picture of any post.

In the process of adding old paintings I was pleasantly surprised that they varied nicely in all aspects and that many of followers of this blog made wonderful comments on some posts.

Here is one terrific example:

“I feel as though I’m driving and terribly lost!”

After I took a very serious look at the proper painting I understood his feelings very well.

I think that you should take a look on all my old paintings because I will look for new ways of expression immediately after “The Kelly’s File” tonight.

Please let me know your opinion of my work that started in January of this year.

If you don’t feel well after the review of my paintings I strongly recommend to watch the healing video below!

Success and Happiness.

It’s already many years that I don’t wish anyone success. Instead I wish people happiness, to enjoy every minute of life. This post explains my reasoning.

PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS

Many years ago my son told me: “Father, I wanted very much to get an interesting and rewarding job, to find a soul mate, to buy a house, to have children and make them happy, to have good friends. Now I have it all but I feel depressed. Why?”

I answered: “You are working too hard and you have not enough time to love yourself, your family and friends. You have no time to love nature, music and art, to relax. You should drastically cut your working week and enjoy what you have. This will make you happy.”

My son said: “Father, if I follow your advice I will earn only half of what I get today.”

I suggested: “Talk to your wife and ask her opinion. She loves you and she is very smart”.

Two weeks passed. Then my daughter-in-law told me that my son arranged to work three days…

Life is full of surprises or robbers, where are you?! (Part 2)

They knew that Soviet authorities allowed us to take only $400.

In the last letter from my mother there was a sentence: “I’ll do everything possible to help you!”

What did it mean? We knew that she could not help us.

It became very cold in our apartment in the beautiful marble villa. When we rented the apartment there was a very warm day and we knew that Italy was a sunny, warm country. We had no idea that it might be cold in March and that the apartment had no heating.

I ate dinner and drank a glass of vodka. We could not open parcels (to pull nails from them). We had to resolve the mystery in the morning. So as every evening before we put on everything that could protect us from cold, lied down in a huge bed and fell asleep.

It was very cold in the apartment when I woke up. I climbed out of bed, dressed up and made tea. My wife and children were still asleep. I drank a cup of tea, took one parcel and went out.

I went to a neighbour who lived in an apartment house. He was a very friendly Italian and lived in a heated apartment.

I greeted him with my best smile. Then I showed him the parcel and nails in it.

He smiled too and brought several instruments. I gestured that I had 5 more parcels and that I needed to take instruments with me. He nodded. I took everything and went back to the cold of a beautiful marble villa.

To be continued

Peace and beauty!
